Project Description
A 1- 1/2 story board and bat hunting/fishing cabin constructed entirely with rough cut lumber. Exterior and Interior walls are Poplar and Red Oak panels. Window trim is Walnut and Cherry. The structure is supported by Oak post and beam on a concrete column foundation. Heavy 6 x 6" posts were cut on the Wood-mizer and raised by block and tackle to support the ceiling. 3 x 3" Cherry rails surround the wrap around porch with hand hewn Black Gum pickets. The second floor bedrooms open to a loft which also features 3 x 3" Walnut railings supported by pickets cut from black Gum saplings. Stair treads and risers are cut from Oak. All floor boards are oak. Ceiling boards are White Pine. The cabin features a floor to ceiling natural stone fireplace in the living room and a 100 year old antique "Round Oak" wood stove in the kitchen. Additional outbuildings, (wood shed, outdoor shower and bunkhouse), were also constructed using lumber cut on the Wood-mizer. Kitchen countertops are topped with black Marble tiles which are trimmed in Walnut creating a very unique work surface. All structural framing such as 2 x 4s and joists were hand milled, virtually eliminating the need to purchase store bought lumber. Several furnishings for the cabin were handmade using wood cut on the Wood- Miser including an 8 farm style Oak kitchen table, a walnut gun rack, fishing rod holder, Walnut shelves, and a Red Cedar "pickle chip" coffee table,
